Dog-Friendly Holidays in Normandy: Beaches, Walks & Where to Stay

Normandy offers an unforgettable holiday for dog lovers. With its magnificent landscapes, endless beaches and warm, welcoming atmosphere, this corner of France is the ideal place for a break with your faithful four-legged friend. Here is everything you need to plan a dog-friendly holiday in Normandy:

Dog-friendly beaches

Normandy is famous for its vast beaches, but rules vary by town and season, so do check before you travel. One common misconception: the beach at Étretat is closed to dogs all year round — they are only allowed on the seafront promenade, on the lead. Nearby, several beaches do welcome your dog within 30 minutes of Le Domaine des Abbesses: Saint-Jouin-Bruneval (on the lead all year, except 1 July–31 August), Le Tilleul (on the lead all year, no summer ban) and Vattetot-sur-Mer / Vaucottes (on the lead all year). Towards Honfleur, dogs are banned from the beach between 10am and 7pm from 1 July to 31 August, but welcome on the lead early morning and evening — while nearby Criqueboeuf and Pennedepie allow dogs on the lead all year.

Scenic walking trails

Normandy's varied landscapes offer a wealth of walking trails to explore with your dog. From coastal paths to woodland tracks and rolling routes through the green hills, there are always new adventures to discover together.

Dog-friendly accommodation

Do check that the place you are planning to stay genuinely welcomes dogs. At our property, Le Domaine des Abbesses, we welcome dogs with a fully enclosed garden where your companion can stretch their legs safely, complete with tables and chairs so you can sit and relax while your dog runs around. We are also happy to suggest dog-friendly activities in the area and to accommodate any particular needs dog owners may have. It all adds up to a stay that is every bit as enjoyable for dogs as it is for their owners.

Norman cuisine

Savour Normandy's culinary delights while sharing an alfresco meal with your dog. Plenty of restaurants and cafés have welcoming terraces where dogs are more than welcome, and you can tuck into delicious local specialities such as fresh seafood, camembert and artisan ciders.

Dog-friendly activities

Normandy is packed with activities you can enjoy alongside your dog. Whether you fancy walking, cycling, kayaking or simply relaxing in a botanical garden, there is always something to do with your loyal companion at your side.

In short, Normandy is the perfect destination for a holiday with your dog. With its spectacular scenery, welcoming beaches, pet-friendly accommodation and wide range of activities, a memorable stay with your canine companion is all but guaranteed. So pack your bags, grab the lead and set off on an adventure in this beautiful region of France!
